Local FOOD finds
Sampling exotic dishes from faraway lands can be exciting, but sometimes, what lies within our own backyards could be just as amazing. We just have to open our eyes and notice what our own town or city has to offer.
In this day and age of restricted travel, why not enjoy the pleasures of locally-grown food and hometown culinary treats? Weekend farmers' markets, local food trucks, family-owned restaurants, and homebased food businesses could be our doorway to some delectable discoveries. And nowadays, even regular supermarkets and grocery stores can surprise us.
International Day Treats- celebrated International Day at work by having an international buffet sale; our donation came with a "passport" that got stamped everytime you purchased a dish from the tables representing different countries; all dishes were made with love by my international co-workers; got Chinese dumplings, French beef bourguignon, a chicken and bean dish with rice from the Caribbean, a beef and tomato stew with rice pilaf from Ghana, and a spicy curry dish from Nigeria; had a tiny cookie for dessert | Starbucks Witch's Brew Frappuccino- offered by our local Starbucks cafe during the Halloween season; I bought one just because it looked pretty and intriguing; it was described as "a purple blend of toad's breath with a swirl of bat warts, topped with vanilla whipped cream and a dusting of green lizard scale powder;" tasted like their orange crème frappuccino and like SB's other concoctions, this is purely "dessert" and not coffee!!! | Ube Latte- if looking for a colourful and fun beverage, try Tamis Cafe's (Filipino fusion restaurant on Bank Street) ube latte, which is an absolute delight. (For foodies out there, you will notice that ube, a type of purple yam indigenous to the Philippines, is the latest culinary craze nowadays.) |
